FOGCRAWLER originally started in 1995 as Stone
Misery. SM's style was mostly thrash oriented
and the line-up included Jason Thorson (drums), Scott Quimby (guitar),
Harry Jay Sieren (guitar), Randy
Servant (vocals) and Mike Christiansen (bass). Within six months, their
demo tape "The Prayer" was
recorded and 200 copies were unleashed upon the vulnerable population of
Southern Wisconsin.
The following year, Chris Halzel replaced Mike on
bass and Nate LeFeber was added as a third
guitarist. Live, SM became a monolithic wall of sound and in 1997 they
recorded their first full length
CD "Product of All." This album saw their style head in a slightly
heavier direction. It was a success and
the sickness quickly spread across the region.
The following year, Harry quit and the remaining
line up became a juggernaut in the Southern WI / Northern IL
area. Jason began pushing the band's style into more extreme terrain and
in 2000 SM went to Qualitone
Studios to record their second full length CD "Media Terrorist."
Produced by Brian Griffin (Broken Hope),
this CD pushed the band toward bigger and better opportunities.
In early 2001, Nate quit and the band shut down
while they tried out guitarists. Wes Edge earned the
spot with his impressive playing and later that year SM returned to the
scene. The following two years were
their most successful as a band. During this time they opened for
several national acts including Hatebreed,
Chimera, Diecast, Skinless, and several others.
Jason and Wes became a well-oiled writing machine
and the band continued to evolve into a much more
extreme musical monster. Subsequently, Randy announced his final show in
November of 2002 due to musical
differences. It was an amicable split so that Randy could pursue singing
in more mainstream musical endeavors.
In early 2003 the band found a dynamic beast of an extreme vocalist in
Scott Usher and SM moved into full-on
death/grind mode.
Just before SM made their return to the stage in
the summer of 2003, Scott Quimby was asked to leave the
band. They soldiered on as a four piece, quickly gaining much metal
respect with their updated line up lead by
Scott Usher. After Halloween of that year the band was forced into a
year long hiatus due to Chris's day job. In
the meantime, Jason, Wes, and Usher, along with help from Chris, wrote
an album's worth of heavy and technical
death/grind debauchery. These songs were not SM songs. They displayed a
whole new level of musical prowess
and the band was a much more vicious animal.
Thus, in 2004 Fogcrawler was born the hulking,
enraged, and twisted version of the SM sound that began
so many years earlier. In June of that year the band went to Studio One
and recorded "Welcome to Your Suffering,"
Fogcrawler's debut CD. Produced by Chris Djuricic (Fleshgrind, Gorgasm,
Disgorge), the CD boasts 11 tracks of
sick pulverizing metal.
In March of 2005 the CD was released to an
incredible response from the underground, garnering positive
reviews both in the States and around the world. Fogcrawler has and will
continue to play an onslaught of shows in
support of "Welcome to Your Suffering." So far they've obliterated small
sections of the Earth all over the Midwest
with the likes of Screaming Afterbirth, Waco Jesus, Incinerate, Anal
Blast, Fuck Saw, and many others. They are
currently writing a follow up CD guaranteed to collapse chest cavities
and tear flesh from bone. Be on the lookout
and beware. This story is far from over
