HOW AND WHEN DID ARVINGER FORM?

Arvinger formed in 2001 when Djerv asked me if we could record some extreme music together. He wrote and performed the lyrics while I wrote the songs. We then recorded 5 songs. Almost a year later I wrote and recorded an instrumental track. During the summer of 2002 we uploaded our songs to the internet. We received great feedback and decided to record 3 more songs and release a full length called, Helgards Fall.


HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ARVINGER'S MUSIC?

It's Norwegian black metal with elements from Scandinavian folk music, together with keyboard it gives the music a mighty Viking sound.


AS YOU TAKE A LOOK AT TODAY'S METAL BANDS, WHAT DO YOU SEE?

I see a lot of great bands. It has become very easy to record and make demo tapes or albums  nowadays, so of course this makes the competition harder. The internet is also a very popular media, so it's also a lot easier to promote a band now. But since metal
has been around for a while now I think it's harder to come up with original ideas that stands out from the rest. But with that said, I still find a lot of the older recordings very enjoyable...


HAVE YOU HAD ANY INTERESTING EXPERIENCES AS A MUSICIAN SO FAR THAT YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO SHARE?


Well, I must admit that I haven't experienced anything overwhelming as a musician so far.


DESCRIBE A FAN OF ARVINGER, WHO ARE THEY AND WHY DO THEY LIKE YOUR MUSIC?


The Arvinger fans are wild, man ! They don't settle down with second best, they demand quality ! Nah, just kidding... The Arvinger fans both like melodic stuff as they also like brutality I guess. We combine black, viking and folk metal, so a fan of Arvinger is likely into at least one of these styles.


WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR 50 YEARS FROM NOW?

WHAT IS THE FIRST METAL BAND YOU EVER LISTENED TO? HOW HAVE THEY INFLUENCED YOUR AMBITIONS?

 Metallica. I first bought a guitar and since my equipment was so bad that I would get distorted sound or even radio stations out of my amp no matter what I did, there was really no other option than to play metal. A friend of mine let me borrow his albums and after a while I was hooked. I'm mostly self-learned so my playing style I developed out of listening and playing Metallica stuff...


WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING RIGHT NOW IF YOU WEREN'T A MUSICIAN?

I'm not a full time musician, but if I had to change the time I spend on  music for something else, I really don't know what that would have
been. I also spend a lot of time on doing recordings for others so I guess I would have been very bored if I wasn't able to do anything that deals with music.


AS A TWO PIECE BAND, DO YOU PLAY OUT LIVE VERY MUCH?

No. We're not able to do so.


ARE THERE ANY MUSIC GROUPS OUT THERE WHO HAVE BEEN AROUND "TOO LONG"?

Well, I think that the most important thing when it comes to music is that you have passion for what you do. If a band keeps on putting out albums just to come up with some quick money or their inspiration has passed away then they need to take a break.


WHAT KIND OF ARVINGER MERCHANDISE IS AVAILABLE CURRENTLY? HOW CAN SOMEBODY GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU?

ANY FINAL COMMENTS, RANTS, OR ADVICE?

As most of you don't know Arvinger is an extreme metal band that represent something beyond the ordinary black, viking metal messages. Both me and Djerv have experienced the power and love from a living God. We have both dedicated our lives to our master Jesus Christ. Of course this message is not very welcome in the metal scene and if you want to see your albums sold then you don't mention Christ. We somehow find it more important to share our personal experiences than to compromise and hide what we feel. We would like to say that your life can be radically changed through the power of this man...
