BOWLSCRAPER
questions answered by Eli, Crouton, Dustin, and Mick
interview conducted by Darren
How did Bowlscraper originate? How did the name come to be?
Eli: In 1997 Crouton, myself and some other friends just hanging out getting high till we ran out, and the band was formed! Looking for another hit we had to scrape the bowl and the rest is history.
Crouton: True story..
Who and what inspires you to create music?
Eli: Old school rock and metal bands like Anthrax, Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Judas priest and lots of guitar music.
Crouton: Women, Weed, and Booze! ...
Dustin: My grandfather who passed away when I was 5 or so was a polka master, and also a drummer that inspired me to go for it.
Mick: People in general are what inspire me. My family who got me into it, musicians who I learned from, things that affect us all as people are the muse for my songs, and last but not least! The fans who enjoy what I do and respond back to me.
What was the defining moment for everyone that music was going to be what you wanted to do for a living?
Eli: At age 9 when I started to play guitar. Amazing vision it gave me. A tool to speak and feel. And seek the truth about life.
Crouton: When I hated my job and loved my music.
Dustin: The minute I picked up the sticks, I was hooked!...
Mick: Before I was born. My whole family are musicians, learning in the womb.
Bowlscraper is from Detroit, how do you feel towards other Michigan Rockers like Ted Nugent, Jason Newstead, Kid Rock, & Bob Seager?
Eli: I like them all cause they remember where they come from!
Crouton: They Rock.
Dustin: A big hats off to all those cats.
Mick: We have had a lot of great musicians come from this town! And more to come! .
How would you define the metal scene in Detroit & the Mid-West?
Eli: Hard and heavy! Lot's of bands and Everybody is trying hard. Need to be more creative Keep working hard and never stop that is the key! ...at least it's not hip hop.
Crouton: A certain club in town gets all the metal gigs and they are famous for ripping bands off.. So it kinda sux when you want to play but you don't wanna make them any $...
Dustin: I'm from the Upper peninsula of Michigan so Detroit is way cool.
Mick: Been in it to long to not give a jaded answer about the local clubs, but the fans are kickass and so are a lot of the bands.
What kind of gear does everyone use?
Eli uses: Gibson, Mesa-boogie, and Marshall. Good earplugs!
Crouton uses: BC Rich, Ampeg, and many blown speakers!
Dustin uses: custom finish Ludwig, Zildian, and truckloads of sticks! .
Mick uses: Shure, Gibson, Ludwig, Zildian, and anything else I can get my hands on! .
Please share your views & comments on Marijuana?
Eli: Marijuana can save the world. If everyone would open their eyes to the truth and it's many uses. I love it! The best medicine nature could provide.
Crouton: Love it! ...
Dustin: Marijuana is a good and bad thing because of all of its uses it is friggin unbelievable!! And bad because it is illegal! We should change that.
Mick: Should be legal! Hell yeah Light it up! ...
How does the crowd react to your live shows?
Eli: Very LOUD! Crowd response is great! And that makes me happy! .
Crouton: They are cool and when Ziggy comes out for the March they go nutz!...
Dustin: We get a good response from people. They love double bass stuff. So I hear.
Mick: Everybody seems to have a good time when we come around, and we haven't had to play with chicken wire in front of the stage for safety, so I guess we are doing alright.
Do you have any insane experiences from the road?
Eli: Some! most of the time I'm thinking about the show and what I can do to make it better!
Crouton: Yes! And more to come!...
Dustin: So far so good. It's been a smooth ride so far.
Mick: Too many to list!...
What is the bands view on internet file sharing?
Eli: Hell yeah! I want everyone to listen to the music...
Crouton: Love it! A way of reaching new people.
Dustin: It's an excellent promotional tool. I think it's a good thing.
Mick: I think it kicks ass! It has helped us so burn on!!! But remember this if you like a band and got it for free. Buy a shirt or something! That's what I do and go see the shows to support them cause it does affect the $ for the artist in the long run.
What would I find in each of your CD players right now?Eli: Slipknot.
Crouton: Lamb of God - Death - Hammerfall .
Dustin: Testament - Slipknot.
Mick: Acid Bath - Chimaira - and of course some Pantera!...

Eli: It is really fucked up! The world belongs everyone not just the greedy governments.
Dustin: The world is a scary place! And always has been, I just notice it more as I get older.
Crouton: No comment!
Mick: I think that we focus to much on the negative and not on the positive which is where things get done and we see progress!!! Think back 10 years or so we had terrorists then the only difference was we were not afraid of them or willing to let them bully us out of our rights as Americans.
What does the coming months & years hold for Bowlscraper?Mick: Spreading the word of the Red Hair Revolution to the masses! Tour, Tour, Tour, and then we will make another record and do it all over again! ...
Care to add any comments, jokes, advice or ramblings?Eli: Dad came in the Room and said hey stop doing that or you will go blind, and I said hey I'm over here.
Crouton: Ziggy Zaggy - Ziggy Zaggy - Smoke Dope Choke! Now you go.
Dustin: to all you scrapers out there you know who you are.. find us hunt us down in a town near you and come and scrape it up with us! Metal style!!!
