Interview With

questions answered by Andrew
interview conducted by Mike

Your bio says that Figure Four has been around for four years. How did the band form? Do you still have the original line-up?

We started in 1998. Just a bunch of friends that were into hardcore that wanted to start a heavy core band. I am the only original member right now.

Is there a good scene for brutal metal bands such as Figure Four in your area of Canada? How long was Figure Four around before the band seem to gain a good following?

There aren't many brutal bands "like" Figure Four in Canada. Some bands from Canada to check out are Final Word, A Perfect Murder, Blue Monday, Hollow Ground, DSC, Comeback Kid!

It appears from your schedule that the band is on the road a lot. How does the constant touring effect your live performance?

It only makes our live show better, When you play everyday you are always gelling better together as a unit. We tour a lot because we love it. We love hardcore, and we love playing.

Have you had many problems on he road that forced you to postpone a show?

U.S. border not letting us cross, Van accidents, weather. We never like canceling shows unless it is a necessity.

As you toured to Brazil and other countries, have you run into any tough security?

It seems like the rest of the word is pretty chill. North America has the most uptight immigration security laws. Everywhere else ( Europe, South America, seems really cool)

When I check out bands, the band always pumps up the crowd by saying that they are the craziest wildest fans on the tour so far. Are there specific shows that truly stand out in your mind? What makes a good show?

Brazil-metonia festival; Orlando, FL; Southern California, Erie, PA; Seattle, and Montreal have been some of our favorites.

In most places that I have been or heard of, it is hard to find a good radio station that has the courage to play heavy music. Have you been getting much radio-play anywhere with your newest release, "Suffering The Loss"?

Its mostly college radio that plays our stuff... we don't really ever expect to get on the top 40 stations.

Has Solid State Records been doing good job with the publicity and promotion of your album and the band?

You know, every label has its ups and downs. For the most part we are pretty happy with Solid State and how they have been treating us and promoting us.

How did you hook up with Solid State?

They had been interested in us for awhile and we were talking to a few different labels at the time. They made us a great deal and we took them up on it!

What would you be doing right now if you weren't a musician in a band?

Probably going to school and getting on with my "real" life whatever that is.

Do you have any advice for struggling musicians who are searching for ways to spread their music and become known?

I cant stress it enough... bands have to get out of their cities, tour, and play as many shows as possible. The live show is what makes the band. That will put you in touch with the right people and give your band a name if you deserve it!

What's the story behind the name "Figure Four"?

No real story, just a name we thought sounded hard at the time!

How can somebody find out more about your band and music?

Check out our website, www.figurefour.org or solid state www.solidstaterecords.com!

Well, that ends the interview. Where are you off to next?

I'm actually in Texas right now visiting my girlfriend. Figure Four is taking a little time off after touring a lot this last year. Expect us on the road again in 2004!

Any final comments, rants, complaints, or anything of the sort?

Thanks for the interview! Thanks for checking us out. Take a look at our website, and check us out if we come to your town!
Peace,
Andrew
