Interview With

questions answered by Brad Burt
interview conducted by Mike
Who is GAVELSEED and where did you come from?
Gavelseed originated in the summer of 2002. The band Sinthetic broke up and Gavelseed immerged from it's ruins. Mike Cronin-Lead Guitar, emailed me and that's when the ball started rolling. Gavelseed consists of: Mike Cronin-Lead Guitar (Menasha), Tony Bateman-Vocals (Chilton) Rick Lemieux-Rhythm Guitar (Green Bay), Sean Lane-Bass (Kaukauna), and Brad Burt-percussion (Appleton).
What style of music would you describe GAVELSEED as? Why did the band choose to play that style?
We are a mixture of different metal genres. We chose the metal industry because we are all influenced in one way shape or form. I played in death metal bands prior to, so did Rick. Tony and Mike were in the band Sinthetic, and Sean had never tried metal before. We all needed a change from the projects we were doing.
Who or what are your influences when you create your music?
Tony influences us. He comes up with some cool shit in his off time. Mike and Rick fine tune and Sean and I add the finishing touches.
Does GAVELSEED try to send a message out through its music? If so, what is it?
Our message is: Don't back down to aggression, stand up for what you believe in, and may god have mercy on you if you get in the way.
I see four downloadable songs on your website right now. How old are they? When do you plan on having a CD/demo available?
The songs were recorded with Mike and Tony's old band. Mike and Tony retained them so we still play the songs. The cd was recorded in 2000. Aug 9th and 10th we will be recording at Simple Studios. We strongly recommend anybody who is looking to record to go there. It will be a four song cd. The songs on the cd will be Beautifully Abused, Begotten Son, Slither, and Insanity's Peak. Also we have T-shirts available for 12 bucks email me at BBurt2112@AOL.com. The cd should be available in the middle of September.
Has GAVELSEED had much support locally? Through other 'zines?
We haven't had much support through any other zines. But, we do have a lot of support with family, friends, venues, promoters, bands, and our tour sponsors. We have started the Life is a Landmine tour with Sutter Cain, Severus, Mongo Seven, and Partly Cloudy. Our goal is to bring national attention to NE WI and rank in the top 10 for scenes. Come check out the tour and give this scene a swift kick in the ass.
What does a band have to do in order to become "successful"?
I believe a band's success can be measured by how hard working they are. Sometimes discipline plays and important role. It's easy to let something slide.
Besides the recording of your new demo, are there any plans for GAVELSEED in the near future?
The coalition (bands listed on the tour) plans on putting together a Midwest tour, to help bring some national attention. We are looking for anyone who has a working knowledge of sound and lights to help us start this tour. We will also be putting together a Life is A Landmine compilation in the month of September. So check that out. It will consist of the coalition.
How can somebody get in contact with the band for bookings or just to check you guys out?
Email me at BBurt2112@AOL.com, our website www.Gavelseed.com, our tour website http:/Landmine.Gavelseed.com, or call me at (920)540-6272.
Isn't Beer great?
Beer is your friend. He's a greedy fucker though. He always charges you to hang out with him.
Who would be the ultimate band for Gavelseed to open up for?We would love to open for Hatebreed or Killswitch Engage.
