** Interview conducted by Taylor Dperd are Carlo Disimone and Valeria Buono. Both of them were members of Fear of the Storm (a cult Italian Dark Wave act from the 90’s) and at the beginning of the new millennium formed DPERD. The first releases are a self-produced cd-r entitled "2003", take part to the "United Forces of Phoenix, vol.1" compilation, and release the CD "3non". This work receives critical acclaim and praise in national and international magazines and web-zines. After these great results DPERD begin to work hard on their new album, "Regalerò il mio Tempo" ("I'll give my Time"), that permits them to ink a deal with My Kingdom Music which releases the CD on February 2008. The album receives great reviews and it’s appreciated in the whole Dark Wave scene. Encouraged by these, the duo works on new music and the result is “Io Sono Un Errore” (in english: “I’m A Mistake”), where the Dark Wave essence is pushed further to discover new territories and emotions. The album came out April 2010. TAYLOR: Dperd is a band that exists on the darker side of bands such as The Cure and other 1980's rock and dark wave bands. What do you believe Dperd offers this genre of music? DPERD: Dperd’s musical
offering’s influenced by our Italian origins, and it could sound
weird in a British musical context. |
An Italian music mag labeled us Mediterranean dark wave. Although one mustn’t think labels of any consequence, I guess our being melodically Mediterranean can be an interesting starting point for all those who’d like to approach our music.
DPERD: All our tracks are composed on the piano. We often try to give the other instruments shape, too, while we’re at the piano, although things usually change as they evolve into the final track.
TAYLOR: What is the inspiration behind your arrangements?
DPERD: We couldn’t say it ourselves. Actually,
our tracks grow little by little, arrangement after arrangement.
Sometimes we even change our initial ideas into something completely
different. It’s as if the track had a life of its own that escapes our control
