AC: Masters of the Universe is a longer record, it goes to all the musical landscapes that Strike a Mortal Terror does, it just takes longer to get there. Strike a Mortal Terror is a quick journey, with few stops. Masters of the Universe is a long ride with all possible lay overs. Both records are textured and colorful. D: Do you get receive any grief for being an instrumental act? AC: Surprisingly we don’t. Portland is very kind to us, our shows keep getting better and better. We try to avoid the typical instrumental band pitfalls, we do think over all band activity from all angles before doing anything to help avoid the grief. D: How was your latest album recorded? Did you head to a real, pro studio, or did you manage to handle most of it on your own? AC: Stephan runs a recording studio out of Portland, which is where we tracked the record. We took the tracks to our buddy Jason Livermore, who runs “The blasting room”, in Ft.Collins, CO. Jason is a big time engineer who has worked with big artists such as Rise against. He mixed/mastered the record, just as he did on Masters of the Universe and our self titled EP D: I look at musical evolution as extremely positive thing, (Especially the way Metallica, Clutch, Megadeth, Mastodon, Machine Head etc. has evolved). How do you feel about |
musical change, and how is that going to affect your next record? AC: Music is always changing, it is cool to listen to new music and see what directions bands are going in. For me, when we start writing, I try to listen to a even blend of new and old music. It gives me a well rounded idea of where my ideas are coming from and where they should end up. D: Do you have any crazy tour/live experiences you would like to share?
D: Are you able to make Shelter Red top priority, or do you have boring and mundane 9-5's? |
