** Interview
conducted by Darren Brandt & ADRENALIN: First off, what is the proper way to pronounce Kamchatka (my guess is Cam - Chat - Kah), and how you came up with the name, how would you describe the genre you fit into? THOMAS: That's right, kam_chat_ka. We were brainstorming the other day (2004) about finding place on this planet which would have such dynamic nature to descibe our music, and we found the Russian peninsula Kamchatka with vulcanos, sulfur lakes, summer, and winter all at the same time, so we just said "That's the place, and that's our name - KAMCHATKA"! The music we play is kind of hard to put in a genre because it comes from so many different directions... but if we have to I guess harder rock with a lot of blues infused ADRENALIN: How did the band form and get its start? THOMAS: We did a Jimi Hendrix tribute in 2001 to honor him since it was 30 years after he passed away. We just clicked big time. After that show we just said LET'S DO IT! ADRENALIN: How did music become something you wanted to pursue as a career? THOMAS: Roger and I have played since we were 5 to 6 years old... so it has never been anything else but music for us. Toby started a bit later but it's all about the music for him too. |
ADRENALIN: The band hails from Sweden. I know that metal/rock is on a different playing field in your country, can you touch on the difference and similarities between Sweden and the rest of the world, in particular, America?
ADRENALIN: America has kind of painted a target on its chest with all the political bullshit these days, Is your first time in the USA? How do you feel as an outsider looking in sort of speak? THOMAS: This was my third tour here, the first one was in 2001 with another act. A lot have changed since then. It's a shame that the politicians let their own people suffer the way they do and it's a shame that anybody around the world should suffer in the name of greed, beliefs or what-ever differences we all have. And that goes for every country in this world. |
