Interview with
Onus

** Interview conducted by Mike of
Adrenalin Metal Union - January 2008**

Wow, I finally have the priviledge of bringing to you an interview with Onus, a band of 4 metalheads from the Appleton, WI area. Up until several months ago, electronic communication with this band has been nearly impossible. Several interview attempts with this band have been made in the past but have fail due to one mishap or another. So, I am thrilled that my chance to give this band some exposure has finally come. Read on....

ADRENALIN: Well, let’s first start out with a brief history of the band? When was Onus born and how did it get created?

BRIAN: Onus started in 1998 when our guitarist Adam was inspired to create a Death Metal from going to a local show at Ryan's Ballroom. He was pretty taken by everything he saw and heard. The name comes from when he was in Spanish class and saw the word and what it meant.

ADRENALIN: You signed a contract with Baleful Records. How long are you guys signed on for?

BRIAN: hahahha...we signed with them back about three years ago (and it was for three years). I guess the label kinda went under about a year and half later. Now we are going halfsies with everything with one of the guys who started that label.  As far as contracts go...We have about 2 months left.

ADRENALIN: I read that just released your first EP with them. How has the response been to it so far?

BRIAN: Our November 17th EP was Released on

November 17th (har har) and so far the response has been extremely positive with everyone.   Thankfully.

ADRENALIN: What studio did you record at? How was your experience there? Any setbacks?

BRIAN: We recorded it at Studio Six with our good friend Scott Saxe and Phil(from Pale Grey Sky and Experiment Fear).  Our experience was fun, although our drummer at the time came very unprepared and it took a while to get him started.   Once the recording started it got much better. We had our guitars worked on (which was one of the best ideas ever) all the wiring, Intonation, all that shit. It felt great to play.

Anyways, our setbacks became apparent after the first day when our drummer at the time had some problems getting through a few of the faster parts, so chop chop with Protools and we finally got it. We had not much money at all to spend so there are a few things that went over looked. But it’s always a work in progress, and I don't think I'll ever be 100% comfortable with our finished product. There always something

ADRENALIN: How does the music on this release differ from what is on your last EP?
