Opinionation

Greetings all!

Welcome to my first column! Each issue, I am going to ramble on and on and on, and you, the reader, have no choice but to deal with it! I don’t plan on sticking to formats or themes. No rules or regulations.. You may see things evolve and change as time progresses. I may also add a column just for the website www.adrenalinfanzine.com.

First off, I want to take a minute to thank all of our readers from all around the globe. Your continued support is much appreciated and what keeps us going!

I want to start off with some recommendations. The new In Flames, "Soundtrack to your escape" is simply put... Amazing. So is the predecessor "Reroute to Remain". If you don’t own either of these albums, I strongly advise you find a way to get them immediately! What a fantastic band. The new Fear Factory "Archetype" has some great songs to it, particularly Cyberwaste, Drones & Archetype. Very powerful and ultra-HEAVY!

I recently took some advice from a friend and started listening to Clutch. I have heard their new album "Blast Tyrant" and love it! The singer has that unique voice that can make or break any band. The band has a groove thing going on and sounds very natural and quite pleasing to listen too.

Another band that fits into this category is CKY. After reading on the Anthrax website that Scott Ian picked C.K.Y’s "Infiltrate, Destroy, Rebuild" as one of his top picks of 2003, I decided to investigate further. I picked up the album and was blown away. They have their own unique sound not only musically, but the singer is phenomenal. I read that Axl Rose was a huge fan, and hand picked them to open up for the "GNR" tour last year. Y’all know how that went.

Those of you out there looking for those songs that make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end take note. I came across a song recently I haven’t heard in a while-Guns N’ Roses "Coma" from "Use Your Illusion I". I remember as a teenager listening to this song and it gave me chills. There is something to be said for those songs out there that can do that to a person. I live for those songs! Coma is very epic. It circles through emotions like a joint being passed around at a Bob Marley concert. The lyrics entail the victim in a coma struggling with the idea of wanting to be at total peace or come back to the crazy world he lives in, like he is stuck in the middle contemplating where to go. It is an extremely well written and produced song. I would suggest a critical listen if you haven’t heard it or never paid attention before. Preferably undisturbed with headphones. What a trip!

On May 2nd, 2004, I had the luxury of seeing MetallicA live and in the round. They put on an excellent show. Even the openers Godsmack were good, even though I spent most of their performance having a fiesta in the beer garden! MetallicA opened with Blackened and continued the heaviness from there. Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning, Sanitarium, Battery, No Leaf Clover and Dyers Eve we just a few of the many highlights. The Pyrotechnics were unbelievable! This had been my 6th MetallicA show spanning over 14 years and they sounded just as good as ever. The show had sold out in 22 minutes, and I did not see a disappointed face in over 10,000 crazy metal heads.

I am anxiously awaiting "Some Kind of Monster". The new film about the inner turmoil & triumph that surrounding MetallicA the last few years. It is about the band in crisis, and how they dealt with all of the diversity they were forced to face. Starting with the loss their bass player, Napster, James’ rehab experiences and finding a way to continue to build on this huge montage that have created . I am a HUGE fan of the band, but I think this movie will make an interesting film for almost anyone to see.

Well, congratulations! You have successfully survived my first column. I am interested in hearing from you. Please email any suggestions, comments, complaints or anything you like to darren@adrenalinfanzine.com. Thanks for reading. See you next issue!
