Dushan Petrossi (Iron Mask/Magic Kingdom)
** Interview conducted by Rob of Adrenalin Fanzine - April 2006 **

ADRENALIN: When I first heard "Hordes of the Brave" about a year ago, I was blown away by the fact that every facet of the album seemed to have everything that I look for in good power metal; A great singer and really creative melodic writing and soloing. With so many bands out there doing the same thing its refreshing to hear a band do it right. What made you ultimately decide to put together Iron Mask and what issues dictate how much time you spend on this band compared to Magic Kingdom, your main band?

DUSHAN: Well, thanks a lot. Cool to hear you like the new album. A few years back Lion music wanted to sign my second Magic Kingdom album but I had already closed the deal with LMP. Lasse and Lion music is one of the best melodic labels nowadays so when they proposed me a contract Iron mask was born. The main difference between MK and IM is the singer. They bring a total different feeling to my music. IM is also more hard rock oriented but still neo classical. That is the root of my writing style. MK is more speed metal with sometimes very extreme screaming vocals for some operatic epic songs. I spend the same time for these 2 bands; they are like my children-)

ADRENALIN: When it comes to power metal, what usually makes or breaks it for me are the vocals regardless of how great the musicianship is. You've recruited some tremendous talent in this area for the Iron Mask project in Goetz "Valhalla

Jr." Mohre and former At Vance singer Oliver Hartmann. Is this a combination that will continue for future Iron Mask albums?

DUSHAN:  Thanks. Yes, sure. I don’t change a winning team (hehehe).

ADRENALIN: When it came to writing "Hordes of the Brave", was there a collaborative effort or did you compose most of the instrumentation? If so, do you also compose melody lines for the vocals?

I compose everything; music, lyrics, vocal lines - but I m not a dictator. The singers also get the right to put a lot of their feelings in, but yes, everything is written when I send working demos to the IM singers I really know what I want to hear in the end.
